Clocking in at nearly an hour, the epic Room Film 1973 is one of Gidal’s best known works. Its restraint challenges to view the world through both reflections and lack of light. In Coda I and Coda II William Burroughs recites passages of Gidal’s text while we see “a complex of barely visible cuts in space and time”. The Gidal 2 screening will close with the repeat of Not Far At All. By renewing the experience Gidal considers what it means to look again, an issue he faces often even within a single piece of work.
