Ne me quitte pas

After his wife ups and leaves with the children, Marcel is ready to kill himself. His friend, Bob, could be willing to help him, if the pair weren’t so busy drinking and wallowing in their loneliness. The countryside, forests and rum serve as their retreats, and the everyday life is set to the pace of drunkenness, wood chopping and the occasional dentist’s appointments. Whereas Marcel tries to get a grip on his feelings of rejection at rehab, Bob continues his placid life with his bottle of rum and cigars.

Marcel and Bob are the heroes and the villains of their own lives, balancing each other. Their loneliness defines their lives, and both deal with it in their own ways, without skimping on the wine. The tragicomic friendship of these men is foregrounded in this subtly humorous documentary that focuses on masculine characters trying to get through their everyday lives – even if by planning their suicides.
