A MOVIE is a classic of cut-and-paste cinema. In 1958 it was a novel, geometric weave of the film and television culture of the time. The other films in the screening are also variations on the American dream: COSMIC RAY, MARILYN TIMES FIVE and LOOKING FOR MUSHROOMS are ecstatic rhapsodies for hedonism. REPORT drills paranoid into the heart of the CIA. BREAKAWAY’s structure is autistic in its dualism: image and sound are first run forwards, then backwards.
