Matthias von Gunten is a Swiss filmmaker who was born in Basel in 1953. He attended the University of Television and Film in Munich from 1975 to 1980. He subsequently worked as an editor, cameraman and director’s assistant on various film productions. Since 1986 he has directed numerous documentary films for cinema and television. His most famous films are Coincidence in Paradise (1999), which delves into the mystery of human origins, and Journeys Into the Interior (1988).
Von Gunten’s newest film ThuleTuvalu, which is screened in DocPoint, is about global warming. It portrays how people in two different places, Thule and Tuvalu, are forced to abandon their traditional way of life due to the consequences of global warming.
