DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival takes place annually in January in Helsinki, Finland and in Tallinn, Estonia. In 2015 DocPoint was organized the 14th time.
Founded in 2001, DocPoint Helsinki is one of the largest documentary film festivals in the Nordic countries. In Finland, it is the only festival solely dedicated to documentary films. DocPoint expanded to Tallinn in 2010, which makes DocPoint the world’s only festival happening in two countries at the same time.
The aim of DocPoint is to give the people an opportunity to see some of the most talked-about documentary films of the past year. It is also a prestigious venue for Finnish documentary film. DocPoint’s New Finnish Documentary Films Selection includes annually some of the most anticipated premieres of the year.
In addition to film screenings, DocPoint includes also seminars, lectures, clubs and a Masterclass. A Documentary Film Event for Children and Youth called DOKKINO has also been an essential part of DocPoint since the beginning of the festival. At the moment, DOKKINO tours in 16 cities all over the country, and broke its audience record in 2014 with an amazing 13 000 children and young attending the screenings and workshops. DocPoint also organizes Doc Lounge clubs in Helsinki. Doc Lounge is a Nordic network of special film events taking place at 16 Doc Lounge clubs across 4 countries, screening the newest documentary films in a relaxed club setting. Doc Lounge Helsinki clubs are organized ca. once a month at Lavaklubi.
The 14th DocPoint took place on 27th Jan – 1st Feb 2015. Over 30 000 visitors participated in the festival screenings and side events. In total, 165 documentary works were shown during the six-day festival, more than 40 of the screenings being sold out.
